B-D-A Instructional Framework

Instructional activities Before reading, During reading, and After reading is at the core of helping your students effectively comprehend content area text.

As a class activity, we’re going to explore websites with strategies that support teaching with the B-D-A instructional framework.

  1.  Visit any of the websites below.
  2. Find a strategy that you think would be effective for use in a future lesson plan.
  3. After our exploration, you’ll share that strategy with the class.  Bonus:  include a link to the strategy in the comment section below with a brief description.

Strategy Library at AdLit.org  For grades 4-12, but could be adapted for lower grades.

Reading Strategies at Tips-for-Teachers.com  Looks to be mostly K-5, but could be adapted up.

Idea Library at SmekensEducation.com Link takes you to pre-reading activities; look at the menu on the left for links to During Reading and After Reading

103 Things to Do Before During After Reading  You’ll find some very creative ideas here, but the list isn’t categorized by B-D-A  Note!  You might find some good ideas for a WebQuest task!
